Asake released his single ‘Military’ just a few days after the 67th Grammy Awards, and the song has been sparking a lot of controversy online.
True to his style, he raps in Yoruba, making it clear that he doesn’t concern himself with what people say. He reminds everyone that English isn’t his first language (Oyinbo ko oro l’enu mi), that he grinds hard, and that his achievements speak for themselves. In another verse, Asake boldly declares:
For my set, who get money pass me? Ko ma si, emi ko like lowkey
Translation: Amongst peers from my set, who has more money than me? There’s none, I just like being lowkey.
This lyric alone has ignited plenty of talks on X (formerly Twitter), with fans and critics alike sharing their opinions on Asake’s confidence and self-assurance.
